Middle East Downstream Week

About This Event

About MEDW 2012

Earlier this year we launched the Refining Outlook Survey with the aim to identify the key challenges currently faced by the industry.

Our desire was to get closer to the refining market and let experts speak out on what is currently happening and how the future looks, with specific attention to the Middle East region.

The results acknowledged the current internal crisis affecting the industry but demonstrated that the Middle East is still seen as a relatively prosperous refining market, thanks to its crude availability and continuous efforts to modernise facilities.

However, bottom low margins, oversupply, difficulties in sourcing investments and the overall financial crisis are constantly threatening productivity and forcing oil and gas companies to rethink their business model to swiftly adapt to today’s outlook.

The shift towards a much needed transformation – either through vertical integration of refineries and petrochemical plants or through the exit from the downstream sector of few oil majors – is proving challenging for international and national companies.

Nevertheless, the market still offers a variety of growing opportunities for pioneering companies that dare to embrace the change, welcome international partners and invest in innovation, process optimisation and advanced technology.

The Middle East Downstream Week 2012 will give voice to those who can set an example in the industry and contribute to further shape a successful and sustainable Middle East downstream market.

I look forward to meeting you at MEDW 2012.
